The University of South Wales (USW) is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all members of the USW community, including students, colleagues, volunteers and visitors. Abuse of any kind against anyone will not be tolerated.
What is Safeguarding?
'Safeguarding' means preventing and protecting children and Adults at Risk from abuse or neglect and educating those around them to recognise the signs and dangers.
A 'Child' in this context is an individual under the age of 18 years.
An 'Adult at Risk' describes anyone over 18 years of age who is experiencing or is at risk of abuse or neglect and has needs for care and support (whether or not the authority is meeting any of those needs) and as a result of those needs is unable to protect themself against the abuse or neglect or the risk of it.
You can find out more about USW's approach to safeguarding here: USW Safeguarding Policy and Supporting Information.
Urgent help (mental health)
If you, or a student you are in contact with, requires urgent intervention
from a mental health practitioner, you should complete the Mental Health Welfare Concern Form.
This includes cases where:
- you/the student is experiencing significant mental health difficulties which are having a detrimental effect on your/their studies and ability to carry out day to day activities.
- you/the student requires urgent support because there is a risk to your/their health and welfare, or that of others.
